You heard me right! The Chinese are using radiation treatments to treat their water, which is polluted with textile dyes. This is the result of a series of tests launched by the IAEA to help China use radiation technology to clean its water. The plant is 300 kilometers south of Shanghai, in the city of Jinhua. This technology is a huge step forward in the use of nuclear energy outside weapons and power, and will be a tremendous asset for China’s wastewater treatment. Meanwhile in Bangladesh, the use of plant mutation, (genetic engineering) has tripled their rice production and allows many families earn enough money to make a living. The new rice plant is called Bhinadhan-7 and grows faster with a higher yield. This is also a good example of the use of nuclear technology outside the power plant.
